Chocolate cake with salted caramel frosting

Here's a recipe for a delicious chocolate cake with salted caramel frosting that you can try at home:

Ingredients:

For the chocolate cake:

  1. 200g unsalted butter, softened
  2. 200g caster sugar
  3. 4 large eggs
  4. 200g self-raising flour
  5. 50g cocoa powder
  6. 1 tsp baking powder
  7. 3 tbsp milk

For the salted caramel frosting:

  1. 100g unsalted butter
  2. 200g light brown sugar
  3. 100ml double cream
  4. 1 tsp sea salt

Instructions:

Preheat the broiler to 180°C (160°C fan)/350°F/gas mark 4. Oil and line two 20cm round cake tins.

In an enormous blending bowl, cream together the margarine and sugar until light and soft.

Beat in the eggs, one at a time, adding a tablespoon of flour with each egg.

Sift in the remaining flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder, and fold into the mixture.

Stir in the milk until the mixture is smooth.

Spoon the mixture evenly into the prepared cake tins.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cakes are risen and a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.

Permit the cakes to cool totally in the tins prior to eliminating.

To make the salted caramel frosting, melt the butter and sugar together in a saucepan over a medium heat.

Add the double cream and sea salt, and whisk until the mixture is smooth.

Remove from the heat and allow the mixture to cool completely.

Once cooled, whisk the mixture until it is light and fluffy.

Place one of the chocolate sponge cakes on a serving plate. Spread a layer of salted caramel frosting over the cake.

Place the second chocolate sponge cake on top of the frosting and spread another layer of salted caramel frosting over the top.

Decorate the cake with extra salted caramel sauce and chocolate curls or shavings, if desired.

Chill the cake in the fridge for at least an hour before serving.

Enjoy your delicious chocolate cake with salted caramel frosting!
