Gingerbread cake

Gingerbread cake is a classic dessert in England that is typically enjoyed during the fall and winter months. It is a rich and flavorful cake that is infused with warm spices like ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Here's a recipe for gingerbread cake that you can try at home:

Ingredients:

  1. 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  2. 1 tsp baking soda
  3. 1 tsp ground ginger
  4. 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  5. 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  6. 1/2 tsp salt
  7. 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  8. 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  9. 1/2 cup (120ml) molasses
  10. 2 large eggs
  11. 1/2 cup (120ml) hot water

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease a 9-inch (23cm) square cake pan and line it with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the molasses and beat until well combined. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth and well mixed.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Let cool completely.

Serve the gingerbread cake as is, or top it with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce.

Enjoy your homemade gingerbread cake!
