The origins of Millionaire's shortbread are unclear, but it is believed to have originated in Scotland in the early 20th century. Today, it is a beloved dessert throughout the United Kingdom and beyond, with many variations and adaptations to suit different tastes and dietary restrictions.

Here's a recipe for Millionaire's Shortbread that you can try at home:

Shortbread Base:

  1. 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
  2. 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  3. 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour

Caramel Filling:

  1. 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  2. 1/2 cup (100g) light brown sugar
  3. 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter
  4. 1 tsp vanilla extract

Chocolate Topping:

  1. 8 oz (225g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  2. 2 tbsp (30g) unsalted butter

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease a 9x13 inch (23x33 cm) baking dish and line it with parchment paper.

In an enormous bowl, beat the relaxed margarine and sugar until light and cushy. Gather the flour and blend until the mixture comes into a single unit.

Press the shortbread mixture uniformly into the lower part of the pre-arranged baking dish. Prick the surface with a fork and heat for 20-25 minutes or until gently brilliant brown. Let cool totally.

In a medium pan, join the dense milk, earthy colored sugar, and spread. Cook over low intensity, blending continually, until the combination thickens and turns a caramel tone (around 10-15 minutes).

Eliminate the caramel from intensity and mix in the vanilla concentrate. Pour the caramel over the cooled shortbread and spread it equitably. Let cool for 15-20 minutes.

In a small saucepan or in the microwave, melt the chocolate chips and butter together, stirring until smooth. Pour the melted chocolate over the caramel layer and smooth it out with a spatula.

Chill the Millionaire's Shortbread in the refrigerator for at least an hour or until the chocolate has set. Once set, remove the dessert from the pan and cut into squares or bars.

Enjoy your homemade Millionaire's Shortbread!
