Spiced apple cake is a delicious dessert in England that is perfect for autumn and winter seasons. It features chunks of juicy apples and warm spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Here's a recipe for spiced apple cake that you can try at home:
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups (240g) chopped apples (peeled and cored)
- 1/2 cup (120ml) buttermilk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease a 9-inch (23cm) square cake pan and line it with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Add the chopped apples to the butter and sugar mixture, stirring to combine.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in the buttermilk and vanilla extract until the batter is smooth and well mixed.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Let cool completely.
Serve the spiced apple cake as is, or top it with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
Enjoy your homemade spiced apple cake!
