Treacle tart

Treacle tart is a sweet, traditional English dessert made from golden syrup, breadcrumbs, and lemon juice, all baked in a shortcrust pastry case. Here's a recipe for making treacle tart:

Ingredients:

  1. 225g plain flour
  2. 100g unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  3. 25g icing sugar
  4. 1 egg yolk
  5. 1 tbsp cold water
  6. 300g golden syrup
  7. 100g breadcrumbs
  8. Juice and zest of 1 lemon
  9. 1 egg, beaten

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4.

To make the pastry, place the flour, butter, and icing sugar in a food processor and pulse until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Add the egg yolk and water and pulse until the mixture comes together to form a ball.

Carry out the baked good on a floured surface and use to line a 23cm/9in tart tin. Prick the base with a fork and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Combine as one the brilliant syrup, breadcrumbs, lemon juice, and lemon zing in a bowl.

Spread the blend equally over the cake base.

Brush the beaten egg over the filling.

Prepare in the stove for 25-30 minutes, or until the cake is brilliant brown.

Permit to cool for 10-15 minutes prior to cutting and serving.
